Size 8 Potjie Pot Cauldron Cast Iron Festivals
For those who are passionate about cast-iron cookware or need a vessel for serious spell-casting, this foundry-cast potjie pot is a magnificent piece of ironware. A deep, round, ribbed potbelly is generously sized and efficient for heating, while a perfectly fitted lid keeps contents inside and an arched handle can be used to move the pot.
This size of our superb iron potjie is 14 inches tall and 15 inches wide. It weighs a solid, hefty 48 pounds of pure iron. The capacity is @4.75 gallons, and the pot is stably supported by three legs, high enough to admit a cheerful blaze below or hold the belly away from flammable surfaces.
Seasoning these cooking pots in the old fashioned way with a good shortening or vegetable oil will make the pot stronger and more elastic (yes, cast iron, can become brittle), resulting in a more beautiful pot like cast iron form the old days.
Made from pure cast iron with no pot-metal additives, cauldrons and iron cookware from Annie’s Collections™ are molded, finished, polished, and oil-seasoned. Each item is food-safe and can be used for cooking, burning incense or candles, holding coarse-ground spices or herbs, or an endless array of other uses. Seasoning instructions will be included with your purchase. Enjoy the selection of standing and hanging pots, ranging from a favor-sized mini cauldron to a 19-plus gallon cooking kettle, and related iron implements to fit your every need.

A potjie (pronounced “poikey”) is a time-tested form of cooking pot that has been used throughout Europe and Africa since at least the 1600s, and possibly as far back as the Iron Age. Their design exemplifies the unsung mechanical genius of ancient crafters: the deep, round bottom ensures a good rolling boil that cooks well and prevents food from sticking, while the three legs provide maximal stability, and the wide-mouthed shape allows versatility in outdoor cooking. Each potjie pot is equipped with a sturdy handle for lifting and a well-fitted lid. Cook in your potjie over an open fire or a gas burner, or pile hot coals on the deep, commodious lid to make an efficient Dutch oven.
Potjie Pots are made in many sizes from small herb pots to large cook kettles. The round shape allows the heat to flow evenly around the sides and maintain liquids at the lowest point to keep food from burning. The lid has a deep lip for holding hot coals providing top heat. Used world-wide for Cajun stews, jambalayas, paellas, sea foods, Fish Fries, Beans, Turkeys, Roasts and anything you can cook over an outdoor fire. Excellent for cooking over open fires or LP gas burners.
